The Oil
Producer: Trappeto di Caprafico
Oil: l’Olio Extra Vergine d’Oliva Italiano
Cultivar: Blend
Origin: Abruzzo, Italy
Harvest: 2025/2026

An Abruzzo blend for the everyday table
This oil brings us back to our region, Abruzzo, through a blend rather than a single cultivar.
The bottle is labelled “l’Olio Extra Vergine d’Oliva Italiano”. We have not been given the individual varieties or their proportions, so our assessment focuses on the character of the oil we tasted.
The one-litre bottle makes this Blend particularly interesting for everyday use.
It is offered at almost the same bottle price as the half-litre monocultivars, giving twice the quantity and therefore near half the cost per litre.
Its robust character makes it a versatile choice for cooking or using raw. We would happily use it across a wide range of dishes, where its flavour can accompany the food without requiring a special occasion.
Our sensory assessment
No sensory defects were detected in our tasting.
The oil presented a ripe fruity character, with tomato and grass/leaf as the most prominent aromatic notes.
Artichoke was also present, while fresh almond and aromatic herbs appeared at lower intensity.
Pungency was clearly expressed, with more moderate bitterness.

The Spiderweb highlights fruitiness and pungency, followed by tomato and grass/leaf, with bitterness at a more moderate intensity.
Our tasting notes
Compared with the Intosso and Crognale tasted alongside it, this Blend felt less complex, but retained a robust character and versatility at the table.
The RUANO Verdict
7 / 10
A good, robust extra virgin olive oil that we would happily choose for everyday cooking and for using raw. A satisfying and versatile oil.
Among the oils (blends and monocultivars) we have personally tasted from Sainsbury’s, Lidl and Tesco, none has come close to this Blend in our assessment.
At almost the same bottle price as the half-litre monocultivars, this one-litre Blend offers almost twice the quantity. That makes it an appealing option for those who want to use a characterful extra virgin olive oil regularly.
We’ve managed to secure a small quantity for RUANO, and we expect it to be available in our curated shop in a couple of weeks. If you decide to try it, we’d love to hear your impressions—please let us know what you think!
